EPA halts its chemical review effort

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is reevaluating its existing chemicals assessment framework and has suspended its Chemical Assessment and Management Program. The initiative, known as 'ChAMP', aims to ensure the safety of existing chemicals by developing screening-level characterisations for the nearly 7,000 compounds produced or imported in the country at quantities of at least 25,000 pounds (11 tonnes) annually.  More...
