Leading polymer additives supplier Songwon has developed a new range of high heat, low colour distortion and low emission additive formulations for thermoplastics. The company says the new products deliver significant benefits to compounders, moulders and end-users. A new solution for polypropylene (PP) fibre stabilization in colour-critical applications is also being launched.
Dow introduces high-efficiency impact modifiers for PVC in Asia (pp. 2-2).
Dow Plastics Additives, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, has launched a ‘next-generation’ acrylic impact modifier for vinyl profile extrusion, pipes and compounding in the building and construction industry. Paraloid™ KM-606P is available in the Asia Pacific and Australasian region.
Evonik rolls out innovative additives to boost properties and processing for TPS and TPU (pp. 2-3).
At last autumn's K 2010 show in Düsseldorf, Evonik Industries extended its Aerobatch® family of products with the launch of several new additives. Three Aerobatch PP products provide ‘significant improvements’ in the mechanical properties of styrene block copolymers (TPS) in particular, while the Aerobatch U additive tackles the processing problems typically encountered with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) elastomers.
Microban announces antimicrobial breakthrough for medical devices (pp. 3-3).
Antimicrobials specialist Microban International is exploiting its expertise in technologies for polymers to look for synergistic effects to help medical device manufacturers address bacterial contamination of medical devices commonly associated with hospital acquired infections (HAIs).
Eliokem launches new elastomeric modifier with enhanced resilience (pp. 4-4).
French company Eliokem has introduced a new grade of Sunigum elastomeric modifier suitable for use in a wide range of thermoplastics. Sunigum P2100 offers enhanced resilience properties, the company says, making it ideally suited for dynamic gasketing applications.
New foaming agents unveiled by Tramaco and Clariant (pp. 4-5).
Germany's Tramaco GmbH, a Rowa Group company, launched two foaming agent masterbatches for thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) at the K 2010 event, where Clariant Masterbatches also presented its latest generation of Hydrocerol® chemical foaming agent (CFA) masterbatches targeting new applications such as polyester plastic sheets used for food trays.
Latest masterbatch range from Ampacet mimics weathered stone (pp. 4-4).
According to New York-based masterbatch specialist Ampacet, its new Textural Elements™ masterbatch collection captures the ‘earthy colours and rugged textural nuances of centuries’ old natural stone’. The company says these effects mirror consumers' ‘quest for authenticity’, with the flawed appearance giving the impression of being ‘real’.
Final roundup of additive introductions from K 2010 (pp. 5-7).
In addition to the flame retardants, stabilizers and antioxidants, colorants and effect pigments covered elsewhere in this and other recent issues of ADPO, last year's K 2010 show witnessed the introduction of a wide miscellany of more ‘niche’ polymer additives.
Shepherd Color offers new FDA-approved blue pigment (pp. 7-7).
Cincinnati-based Shepherd Color Co has introduced a new high-performance pigment, Blue 10F545. Deep blue-green in colour, and sky blue when let down with white, the pigment is reported to exhibit good hiding power, opacity and tinting strength. It is approved for indirect food contact use by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) under Food Contact Notification (FCN) 000938.
Angstron Materials presents high-quality graphene oxide (pp. 7-8).
Dayton, Ohio-based Angstron Materials has introduced a new single-layer graphene oxide product, available in a 0.5% water or solvent dispersion for processing flexibility. The new product can be used to significantly improve the thermal, electrical and mechanical properties of polymers and composites, the company says.
Cytec extends capacity for light stabilizers in West Virginia (pp. 8-9).
Cytec Industries Inc has announced that a project is underway to significantly increase the capacity of its light stabilizer production facility in Willow Island, WV, USA. The expansion of the plant is expected to be completed in early 2012.
