SUMMARY:Translational Biomarkers\: Pathways to Phase II Survival
DESCRIPTION:The first ACS ProSpectives conference on translational Bio
markers will be chaired by Dr. Lisa Gold\, Executive Director of Merck
\, and Dr. Paul Galatsis\, Associate Research Fellow of Pfizer. Togeth
er they have gathered a group of highly regarded pharmaceutical indust
ry and academic scientists who will lecture and present case studies o
ver the course of the two-and-a half-day program. \n\nThe high attriti
on rates experienced in Phase II has multiple implications for drug di
scovery and the pharmaceutical industry in general. This conference i
s geared specifically for medicinal chemists and focuses on the pathwa
ys for developing translational biomarkers. These tools facilitate the
translation of preclinical candidates into clinical programs with a g
reater degree of confidence and have the potential to increase the pro
bability of their success. \n\nThis program is comprised of three ses
sions that address key areas of interest for the practicing medicinal
chemist. They are\: \n\n Translatable target engagement bio
markers (imaging and non-imaging biomarkers)\n Mechanism bio
 markers\, including safety\n Clinical biomarkers\, including
disease biomarkers and regulatory acceptance\n\nIn each session\, fou
r speakers will present on their research addressing and providing the
ir prospective on the session topic. Real life examples will illustrat
e how the theoretical can be used to address practical issues.
