Pharmaceutical materials science is a rapidly developing field in which a knowledge of materials properties is used to control the input materials and improve the uniformity of processing and the quality of the product. Thermal methods and calorimetry offer a significant family of tools for the study of materials properties, however their use is often specialist. Whilst they are simple to turn on and obtain data, the output is always dependent upon the method selection and a knowledge of these techniques is vital if they are to be used in an appropriate way. In this course a wide range of techniques will be considered and for each there will be basics, followed by applications and practical advice on how to use the method.
