SUMMARY:Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics for Chemists
DTSTART:20081009T180000Z
DTEND:20081009T191500Z
DESCRIPTION:Six sessions of 75-minutes each on October 9\, 16\, 23\, 3
0\, November 6 and 13. This course presents the fundamentals of Pharma
cokinetics and Pharmacodynamics as they apply to the chemical structur
e of drugs. There will be specific discussion of the role of medicinal
chemistry in the drug discovery process\, how chemical structure affe
cts the absorption\, distribution\, metabolism and excretion (ADME pro
perties) of drugs and also drug affinity and efficacy (Pharmacodynamic
s). By the end of this course students should be able to understand th
e role of the medicinal chemist on various iterations of teams involve
d in drug discovery and development. This course is centered on gainin
g an understanding of in vitro PK assay data (Caco-2\, MDCK\, PAMPA\,
microsomes\, hepatocytes etc) to predict in vivo PK and optimize drug
 ADME properties.
