The German presidency of the Council of the European Union will see the launching of a high-level biotech conference entitled “En Route to a Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy’ on 30 May 2007 in Cologne. Political representatives, industry leaders and renowned scientists will present their views on the ongoing transformation of major industries through biotechnology. Moreover, a 'Cologne Paper' on the perspectives within the next 20-25 years will be presented at the conference. The event will be hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and supported by the European Commission. It will kick-off the European Bioperspectives conference. European BioPerspectives, the third conference of this format, will again unite major biosciences societies and biotech organisations in presenting an outstanding scientific lecture programme. Leading experts from academia and industry will address a broad range of topics from bioinformatics, biomolecular engineering, the –omics disciplines, molecular medicine, systems & synthetic biology, and nanobiotechnology to the latest developments in bioprocessing and industrial biotechnology. Located at the congress centre of the Cologne fair ground BioPerspectives 2007 will reserve ample space for its industry exhibition. Close contact with the audience is guaranteed by the integration of coffee breaks and poster sessions into the exhibition and by special tech transfer sessions featuring applied research, company presentations and business-related topics.
