Strategic Alliance Management Congress (Loews Philadephia Hotel, from May 6, 2013 to May 8, 2013)

Within the pharmaceutical industry there is a growing emphasis on alliances and collaboration with external organizations driven by the need to access innovation, fill product pipelines, and develop companion diagnostics. While alliances are not new to the industry, increasing efforts to forge partnerships with diagnostic companies, venture capitalists, government and academic research centers, present unfamiliar challenges for creating operational harmony. Importantly, the alliance management function operates as a central driver for value generation between partnering organizations; alleviating perturbations, while striving to meet alliance goals. Each partnership is different, but managers need proven tools, methods and leadership skills to create a successful, harmonious relationship between organizations. Cambridge Healthtech Institute's 10th Annual Strategic Alliance Management Congress, May 6-8, 2013, brings together alliance management, business development, technology transfer and licensing professionals, to network, share experiences, discuss case studies, and learn what components cultivate successful partnerships. Join us in Philadelphia, as we meet the challenges of collaboration with a decade of advancing alliance management!

In addition to the participants' lectures, a lecture from an experienced, high profile industrial figure will conclude the proceedings.

Modern Synthetic Methods & Chiral Europe: Reaction to Reality (Radisson Blu Hotel , from May 13, 2013 to May 15, 2013)

This 3-day conference and exhibition has been designed to fill a gap in the conference field, providing a forum where industry and academia can meet to discuss new synthetic methodology and chiral chemistry, and how practical this methodology is from an industrial viewpoint. Industry rarely devises new synthetic methods to perform each step in the synthetic route but relies on using and modifying methods which have been discovered within academia. It is therefore essential that the industrial chemist, whether in early research and discovery or process chemistry, is aware of the latest developments in synthetic organic chemistry, so that efficient and practical methods for synthesising new molecules are devised. Emphasis will be on the state of the art and will provide directions for future work. Industrial chemical case studies where key reactions have been used, either in discovery or in development, will be provided. The conference proceedings for the event will contain all the lecture presentations with key references to the current literature and will provide a valuable source of data for the future.

QbD and Lifecycle Management for Analytical Methods (BioCity Scotland, from June 20, 2013 to June 21, 2013)

A QbD and lifecycle management approach to analytical method development and qualification will result in a better understanding and fewer failures of analytical methods due to more robust methods which produce consistent, reliable, quality data throughout the lifecycle. This, in turn, will lead to less method transfer failures, OOS results and method "incidents" when used in the routine environment. As the industry is now applying Quality by Design (QbD) to process development, it is now being recognized that this is also the way forward to improve and standardise our approach to analytical procedures. This two day training course presents a brief overview of method validation according to ICHQ2 (R1) and discusses the limitations of this approach in terms of its contribution to failure of methods with regards to method transfer and generation of OOS results later in the method lifecycle. It then illustrates that the lifecycle approach is a holistic process which embraces the philosophies of the traditional approach but results in more robust analytical procedures. Finally a comparison of the current approach (ICHQ2) and the QbD approach is presented. The course focuses on HPLC methods; therefore experience in developing, validating and transferring analytical HPLC methods would be an advantage to participants. The material is presented by means of slides, handouts and participation of the attendees through discussion, case studies and hands on group exercises. This course is designed to provide training in how to apply Quality by Design and lifecycle management to the development and qualification of analytical methods. It aims to highlight the limitations of the current approach to method validation (ICHQ2) and the benefits to using the QbD approach. Although the QbD and Lifecycle management approach is not yet officially recognised for analytical methods, the course is based on the approach used for manufacturing processes and products as described in ICH Q8, Q9 and Q10. The course emphasises practical issues such as: • Comparison of the traditional approach and QbD/lifecycle approach to analytical methods • Applying the QbD and lifecycle approach to development and qualification of analytical methods • Exploring and controlling variables of analytical methods
